Werking
Licht dat schuin van buiten het beeld op de frontlens valt, kaatst binnen in het objectief heen en weer. Dat zie je terug als een lichte waas over de foto of als gekleurde vlekken. De zonnekap steekt voor de lens uit en houdt dat licht tegen voordat het naar binnen komt.
Kleur
Deze uitvoering is zwart. Zwart is de standaardkleur voor objectieven en zonnekappen, en de matte binnenkant slikt strooilicht dat anders alsnog op de frontlens zou vallen.
Bescherming
De rand van de kap steekt voor het glas uit. Valt de camera om of stoot je hem ergens tegenaan, dan raakt de kap de tafel of de deurpost en niet je frontlens. Bij regen houdt hij ook de eerste druppels van het glas.

Funktionsweise
Licht, das schräg von außerhalb des Bildes auf die Frontlinse fällt, wird im Objektiv hin und her geworfen. Das siehst du als hellen Schleier über dem Foto oder als farbige Flecken. Die Gegenlichtblende steht vor der Linse und hält dieses Licht ab, bevor es hineinfällt.

Diese Ausführung ist schwarz. Schwarz ist die Standardfarbe für Objektive und Gegenlichtblenden, und die matte Innenseite schluckt Streulicht, das sonst doch auf die Frontlinse fallen würde.
Schutz

How it works
Light that strikes the front element at an angle from outside the frame bounces around inside the lens. You see that as a pale haze over the photo or as coloured patches. The hood extends in front of the glass and stops that light before it gets in.
Colour
This version is black. Black is the standard colour for lenses and hoods, and the matte interior absorbs stray light that would otherwise still reach the front element.
Protection
The rim of the hood sits ahead of the glass. If the camera tips over or you knock into something, the hood meets the table or the door frame instead of your front element. In rain it also keeps the first drops off the glass.
